EPIC! 90's Weekend!

On August 26th and 27th, Mad Bob's Saloon saw a slew of local musicians take the stage as some of the biggest bands from the 90's! Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, and others were represented. We were so lucky to be part of this and performed a huge 14-song set of Stone Temple Pilots tunes! You can see videos of that set here: http://www.youtube.com/soundtracktomonday

Not only did the members of Soundtrack to Monday perform as STP, but other members also performed with many of the other bands, sharing their skills with other talented locals to help but on this amazing night. You can catch Bobby performing with a Foo Fighters tribute here: http://www.youtube.com/bobbywhitworth

These theme nights are done every couple of months and usually involve a specific decade. There is one for the 70's coming up in September and then another 80's hairband debacle on Halloween weekend!! For Halloween, don't miss Bobby and Byron playing as Skid Row! Costumes, wigs, and all!

Over here at Sountrack to Monday HQ we are conducting an interesting little experiment with a stupid name. We are calling it "Prime Cutz" but only because it makes us laugh everytime we say it. Also, it's easy to swap in dirty words to make it even funnier :) But the main reason we are doing this is to share our influences/likes/etc. with each other and you guys! This are not necessarily songs we'll ever be playing, but they are tunes that have shaped each of us in some way.

We hope you enjoy them!

Original Songs

On Sunday January 30th, 2011 we played one of our rare original music shows. We played with 5 other great bands and had a blast doing it! The crowd was really good for a Sunday night, but what was so wonder is how playing made us feel. Even though Byron was crashing hard on the flu and Dan wasn't playing his own drum kit, we really nailed the songs and it felt amazing!

It looks like the STM boys are getting back into a writing mood, so expect new stuff from us in the near future! Don't worry though, we won't stop playing your favorite music from your favorite bands!

Halloween Is On Its Way!

Halloween is just around the corner and I'm sure you all have some wonderful trick or treating plans a brewing! Well, hopefully, we'll be in those plans!

Soundtrack to Monday is performing not 1, not, but 2 Halloween shows this year! Two years ago we pulled out all the stops and did a David Lee Roth Van Halen tribute that tore the roof off the club! Chock full of hits and rocking fist pumpers and lots and lots of alcohol! Last year we donned the makeup and hair spray of Poison! "Fallen Angel", "Look What the Cat Dragged In", and all the rest!

This year, back by popular demand, Van Halen, or as we call ourselves "Black Eddie" will be back on the scene with even bigger hits like "Hot for Teacher", "Dance The Night Away", and "Pretty Woman"! It is going to be insane. Even better, BOTH of our Halloween shows will feature a set of Van Halen!

The first show will be on Friday October 29th, 2010 at Mad Bob's Saloon in Manchester, NH! We will be sharing the stage with a RATT tribute band, Bon Jovi look alikes, and a homage to Ronnie James Dio that you do NOT want to miss! All your favorite people from the Manchester scene will be there, so you should be too! (For an added bonus, Bobby and Byron from Soundtrack to Monday will be playing in the RATT tribute band! "Round and Round" baby!)

The second show will be on Saturday October 30th, 2010 at The Grog in Newburyport, MA! This show will be all us! That's right, the normal sets of your favorite songs followed by the full Van Halen "Black Eddie" experience! This is something you do NOT want to miss! This club is insane and will be packed with fun loving misfits like yourself!!

Hope we get to see you out this haunting season. Happy Halloween everyone!

My Throat Hurts... I Almost Got Into a Fight for an Hour!

Recently, we had a gig that was immediately followed by a steroid enduced "almost" fight. It was an "almost" fight because not a single punch was thrown, but if derogatory comments and insults were punches, this would have been a 15 round beat fest! Back and forth, forth and back for over an hour. Here's an actual quote, "I'll rip your fu$%ing heart out of your chest!"

The police (acting as the referee) had to break up the "almost" fight not once, but twice. The ring where the fight "almost" took place in a parking lot across the street from the bar... where Bobby's car was parked. So, while the rest of us got our cars all packed up, he had to sit and watch as his car was surrounded by police cruisers. (4) police cruisers. I guess we should be happy that there wasn't any other illegal behavior in the town that night and that all the criminals were across the street from where we had just played. Wait, where's the sarcasm button on this blog?!?

Exhibit A: Bobby's car hidden behind the K-9 Police Cruiser

So, while everyone else was either on their way home or ready to go, Bobby finally got to load his vehicle. Just to be clear, it wasn't the bar's fault. They were some of the coolest and gracious people we've worked with. I don't even think it was much of the alcohol's fault either, just egos inflated well beyond the breaking point. Ah, the life of a rock star!

Scariest thing to a Vocalist - Illness

Whether you sing lead or sing back up, the vocals are very, very important to a band and probably the hardest thing to fake or work around. If your hand hurts, you can change a chord or fudge a solo on a guitar. On the bass, just play less. Drums same thing, but on vocals, people know EXACTLY what a song is supposed to do/say, what notes are supposed to be hit, etc. Much harder to fudge.

So, because of this, overworking your throat is bad news, but getting sick is the worst. When most singers get sick, it's in their throat. Cutting off range or just trashing the voice completely. This time of year is the worst for getting sick. Changing of the seasons brings on allergies and awakens illnesses as people get more social, go outside more, etc. Unfortunately, the shows and crowds don't care what time of year it is, you have to continue to perform.

This post is not an apology or an excuse, as Pete isn't sick (though one of the other bands members has severe allergies right now) but an acknowledgement that we are watching ourselves and our voices like hawks until we pass the spring period!

Lighting Adds So Much to Shows

Was just looking at some pics from a show we did back in January (hard to believe it's already April!) and was amazing at the awesome light show. Even pics with a cheap camera come out awesome when the lighting is incredible!

We now have our own lights, not nearly as awesome as these, but we are slowly growing to this size. LOL! If Dan got his way, we'd have spinning lasers and probably a smoke machine ;) I don't think Pete would appreciate that!

You can see a lot more pics from this show and others up in our Photo section! Come check out our new lights and new songs!

Playing Clubs with Different Musical Tastes

The Soundtrack to Monday cover song list is pretty large, about 100 songs that we consistently play out! This is partly because we like to learn new tunes and keep things fresh, but another big reason is because people are people and everyone likes different kinds of music! Each bar is the same way. The owners want to hear certain styles and people who like that kind of music gravitate towards those clubs.

Classic Rock clubs draw people that like Classic Rock, Hard Rock clubs draw people that like Hard Rock. On and on. Because we want to be able to play almost anywhere and everywhere, we have to learn and play almost everything. From Rihanna to Rage Against the Machine, Metallica to A-ha, Big & Rich to Aerosmith, we have to be able to pull it all off to not get stuck into one or two places.

To some, this may sound like a pain in the butt, but to us, it makes it a LOT more interesting and fun! We get to continually challenge ourselves with new tunes, new styles, and new people! The eclectic nature of our set is what keeps many of you guys coming out, but the fact that we have fun and put all of our energy into every song is probably the biggest reason we keep seeing you guys. Playing all of these different styles is necessary and fun as hell! We just frickin' love music!

Peace,

STM

Are we playing yet?

Soundtrack to Monday is a band that plays a full night of other people's tunes, but we also write tunes of our own. Every once in a while, we get to step outside of our "cover song" box, shedding the frock of the Top 40 Rock/Pop, breaking the chain of the dance floor, etc. etc. etc. When we do this, we make sure it's for a good cause. But instead of Jerry's kids, we are supporting our right to make kick ass, original music, bringing it straight to your ear holes!

Now, don't get us wrong, we LOVE playing other people's music. Putting on a 4 hour show, watching you guys dance your butts off, is exhilarating. It's an awesome feeling and we won't be giving it up any time soon (read "never"). The difference is when we put our heart and soul into a song that we took the time and inspiration to create ourselves and we see someone singing along or bobbing their head or dancing... just wow. WE made that person groove. WE made that person smile. That's exhilarating and awesome, just in a different way from "cover songs." Regardless of who wrote the song, we put everything into it and perform the hell out of it!

This month, we get a wonderful opportunity to share the stage with some incredible friends of ours. People that we've shared bands with in the past, shared laughter, women, and tears. People that are honestly more than friends. Saturday, January 9th, 2010, Soundtrack to Monday is sharing the stage with The Josh Logan Band and Project-G. 342 Lincoln St. in Manchester, NH at Mad Bob's Saloon.

So much great music will be played that night and much fun will be had. New STM songs will be played and Project-G will be announcing their NEW BAND NAME! Hope all of you can make it. Even the folks logging into the site from New Zealand and South Africa should come to the show. I'm sure the plane fare won't be TOOO expensive ;)

Much love,

STM

The past few weeks have been a trip down memory lane. Looking at all of the pictures and videos we've taken over the past year and a half has been awesome! Our first show as a finished group, booze cruises, original and cover shows, parties, it's been a trip!

So now we have our own website, all about us. Not an off-shoot of FaceBook or MySpace, but our own little corner of the web. It's exciting! The only thing that will make it better is for thousands of people to come visit, take polls, leave comments, and send us emails! Yep, I'm talking to all of you ;)

So, thanks for taking this ride with us. Hold on, it's gonna be great!
