SOUNDTRACK TO MONDAY

Peter

Peter Higgins is the lead singer of Soundtrack to Monday.  He also plays a mean tamborine and shaker.  He rules.  That's right, I said it.

"I started my love for music early, wanting to play drums a lot earlier than when I actually started. My earliest influence was Barry Manilow. I’ve always been a melody guy and he had always triggered an immediate emotional response with me."

"As I got older in my teens, I came to love 80’s rock such as Ozzy and Bon Jovi. Catchy melody lines and hooky choruses were my thing. Later on in my mid teens I was introduced to Rush and Dream Theater. Still to this day Neil Peart is my biggest influence and I think he will always be. I knew back then that I wanted to pursue drums. I also got into classical music, learning how to read and write music. I also played marching snare drum. I was more into the technical side of drums, which usually required playing as stiff as a board."

"When I was 19, I started to play in a few local bands such as Gunshy, M3aC, and Bettermans Rule, before joining up with Soundtrack to Monday. The earlier bands were mostly straight forward rock, until I started to play with Bobby Whitworth on bass in the last few bands. Bobby has unintentionally taught me how to feel the music and groove. When Byron Marks started to expose himself to more groove oriented music and musicians on guitar, he helped me out with simplifying my writing and learned more of the feel-side of music. Singers I've worked with, like Josh Logan and Pat Page, have helped shape my craft, and made me a better player. My playing now is more of a hybrid of many genres and styles."

"I'm now playing with Soundtrack to Monday and having more fun than ever have. Combining great music and an extremely fun stage show have been what I’ve been looking for all these years. Good times right now!!"

Byron

"I started playing guitar at the age of 13 and was heavily influenced by bands like Motley Crue, Poison, and Bon Jovi. Like many other players at the time, guitar players such as, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, Eddie Van Halen, and George Lynch heavily influenced me. It was also around this time that I started listening to the two guitar players who would have the biggest influence on me, Vinne Moore and Eric Johnson. I’ve studied with several amazing local guitar teachers: Gerry Adams, Nate Comp, John Maggio, and Jimmy Magoon. I thank all of you for all you've shown me and for helping me down the road to being the guitar player I am today."

"Over the next several years my focus stared to slowly drift away from heavy, guitar oriented music and more towards soul and funk. Artist like Lenny Kravitz, Prince, James Brown, George Clinton and Rick James were the biggest influences and I also admired the fact that they played multiple instruments and in some cases (Lenny Kravitz and Prince), played all the instruments on their records. I was also getting away from the standard power chords and adding jazzier extensions, which enabled me to expand my chord vocabulary as well as the ability to better express myself."

"Right now I'm a member of the Manchester, NH based band Soundtrack to Monday. I've also been blessed with the opportunity to play with artists such as Josh Logan, Bren Scott and Da One 8."

Bobby

"When I was 16, my best friend, Jason, played drums and his older brother, Russell, played guitar.  One day when we were just hanging out, Russell came into Jason's room carrying a bass.  They wanted to play as a full band so he showed me how to play the song "Wild Flower" by The Cult.  Super simple, but super fun.  I fell in love!  Got my first bass when I was 17 1/2.  Saved up my Christmas money and bought it in a pawn shop in Lonoke, AR."

"Since then I've played in numerous bands including Buddha Baby, Betterman's Rule, The Josh Logan Band, M3aC, and Blue Matter.  I taught myself how to play notes and rhythms, but all of the people I played over the years shaped and molded me into the musician that I am today.  Guitarists, Drummers, Singers, other Bassists, have all taught me something."

"I'm sure that some famous bands/players have influenced me at one time or another, but I honestly can't cite any specific person that I try to sound like.  I simply like to play what I feel and hear... whether I'm good at it not, that's another story!  There are definitely a lot of bands out there I love from Third Eye Blind, Better Than Ezra, Butch Walker, Victor Wooten, 30 Seconds to Mars, and, a recent discovery for me, The Dirty Projectors, but I just enjoying listening to them for who they are.  I've got my own ideas as to what should be played on my bass."
